52 journalists have been detained since the start of the Israeli aggression on Gaza

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said the number of journalists detained in Israeli prisons has reached 61, of whom 52 have been detained since the onset of the occupation’s mass aggression against the Palestinian people on October 7, 2023, WAFA News Agency reported.

PPS in a statement on Monday said that after October 7, the occupation detained 98 journalists; 52 were kept in detention, including 15 under administrative detention, the last of whom was photojournalist Hazim Nasser from Tulkarem who was placed under administrative detention for five months, in addition to six journalists, including WAFA journalist Rasha Hirzallah.

In addition, at least 17 journalists from Gaza Strip were detained, two of whom are subjected to the crime of forced disappearance. The two were identified as Nidal al-Wahidi and Haytham Abdul Wahid.

PPS added that at least 12 journalists are being prosecuted by the occupation for alleged incitement.

Incitement, according to the prisoners’ institutions and lawyers defending detainees in the occupation prisons, is a charge unsubstantiated, and is susceptible to distortion and formation, and has become a tool used by the occupation authorities in an attempt to repress Palestinians, especially journalists.
