4000 Dunums of Agricultural Lands Planted with Wheat and Barley Damaged because of Fires in Hasaka

HASAKA, (ST)- The fires, which broke out last night in the agricultural areas of the Syrian city of Hasaka, northeastern Syria, have damaged some 4000 dunums of lands planted with wheat and barley.

In a statement to SANA, Director of Hasaka Agriculture Amer Sello said the fires caused damage to the planted area extending from Nafasha village to Dubi village in Hasaka eastern countryside.

The locals managed to control the fire and prevent it from expanding to other areas, he added.

 Sello pointed out that the areas damaged because of the fires since barely harvest season have estimated at 9000 dunums most of them are planted with barely.

Meantime, since the beginning of this month, several areas in Hama province have witnessed more than 250 fires that broke out mostly in agricultural lands planted with wheat, barley and fruit trees.  

Concerned parties are working hard to control the fires and limit their impacts.
