PALMYRA, (ST)- A group of 35 tourists of French, Canadian and Swiss nationalities visited the Syrian historical city of Palmyra on Sunday after years of hiatus because of the systematic terrorist attacks against the city.
The tourists visited the Tempel of Bel, the Arch of Triumph, the Colonnade, the Archeological Theatre, the Agora and several other archeological sites where they took photos and have video shots for the destruction the terrorists of Daesh had caused to the city.
“My dream to visit Palmyra archeological monuments has come true,” a Canadian tourist told SANA reporter in Palmyra, expressing his deep sorrow over the damage caused by terrorists’ acts of vandalism against the city’s cultural sites, particularly the historical monuments which belong to the entire humanity.
A tourist from France described his visit to Syria as a message of amity and peace to the home of history and humanitarian legacy and the cradle of civilization. He urged all archeology-concerned international organizations to contribute to renovating the damaged historical sites in Palmyra.
Another French tourist said Palmyra is a very beautiful place that deserves to be visited. She expressed sorrow over what happened to the city’s relics because of Daesh terrorist organization.
“I will visit Palmyra again and will convey what I have seen in Syria, the civilized country and the hospitable people, to the French people.
On his part, Director of Tourism in Palmyra Jamil al-Qayyem said that the visit of this European tourist group constitutes a message of peace and culture and an announcement that tourism in Syria has begun to restore its brightness after security and stability have returned to most Syrian areas thanks to the sacrifices of the Syrian Arab army in its fight against takfiri terrorism.
