30 poets from Syria and Iraq take part in a poetry festival in Lattakia to celebrate Syria’s steadfastness

A poetry festival was held at Dar Al-Assad for Culture in Lattakia as part of the Syrian people’s celebrations on their victories over terrorism and on the reelection of President Bashar Al-Assad.

30 poets from different Syrian provinces as well as from Iraq took part in the festival within a poetry competition during which the poets read national, love and sentimental poems as well as Zajal (traditional poetry).

Head of the Higher Commission of the festival Mohammad Al-Kindi said in a statement to SANA that this cultural event is held to share with the Syrian people their celebrations on the landslide victory of President Bashar Al-Assad in the recent presidential elections which indicated the Syrians’ support for President Al-Assad’s leadership and for the Syrian army’s war on terrorism.

He noted the poets’ role in disseminating cultural awareness among the youths through holding festivals and symposiums.

A similar festival will also be held in Tartous next Monday, according to the festival’s public relations official Ahlam Al-Rifa’i.

A number of poets expressed pleasure at participating in this festival, stressing the poets’ important role as ambassadors of culture. They affirmed that art is a form of resistance against the cultural aggression targeting the homeland and that they are defending their country through their art.
