240 photos document major events between 1800-1956 in Syria

The major events happened between 1800 and 1956 in Syria have been documented by the artist Taiser al-Abbas in an exhibition held in the Shahba Cultural center in Sweida city.

The exhibition entitled ‘ history…sites…dignitaries’ included 240 photos depicting battles against the Ottoman and French colonists, martyrs of the Great Syrian Revolutions, traditions and historic sites in Sweida.

Abbas told the official news agency (SANA) that he spent 10 years collecting the photos in order to revive the national memory and to call for adherence to the noble values.

He underlined that documentation must be a national cultural project.

The agency quoted chairman of the ‘al-Adeyat’ Association Mohammad Tarabeh as saying that there are unique photos in the exhibition. “Documentation is important to show the cultural identity of the country.”
