Bogdanov: “Syria has always been an important partner of Russia in the Arab world”

The Russian President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, affirmed that Moscow is ready to continue providing the necessary assistance to the Syrians, referring to the historical relations between the two countries.

According to Al-Arabiya, Bogdanov said in a statement to the Izvestia newspaper: “Syria has always been an important partner of Russia in the Arab world and on the international scene. Relations between our two countries have historically been friendly, based on the principles of mutual respect and consideration of each other’s interests. I believe that the relations will continue to develop on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.”

He added “Syria is going through difficult times today, and we hope that its people will successfully overcome the many difficulties caused by the protracted crisis in the country. For our part, we are ready to continue providing the necessary assistance to the Syrians.”

Bogdanov noted that: “The events that led to the change of leadership in Syria in December 2024 did not change our fundamental approach. We have always supported and continue to support the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, and we believe that the Syrians themselves should decide the future of the country through a broad national dialogue, taking into account the legitimate interests of all political forces and religious ethnic groups.”
