18.000 tons of wheat have been marketed by the end of the current crop year in the liberated countryside of Idlib

The amount of wheat which has been marketed to the centers of the Syrian Grain Eastablishment in the liberated countryside of Idlib governorate amounted to 18.000 tons by the end of the harvest season for the current year.

Idlib agriculture Director, Eng. Yosef Kasem, told SANA reporter that by the end of the process of the wheat harvest in the liberated lands, the amount marketed to the Syrian Grain Establishment Centers in the governorate reached about 18.000 tons, and it is from the production of the cultivated area with wheat, which amounts to 18.000 hectares, most of which are rain fed.

Kasem indicated that the production of the current season was generally moderate despite the good rainfalls in winter, attributing this to the fact that the repetition of wheat cultivation contributed to the impoverishment of the soil and the decrease in the productivity per dunum.

The wheat-growing areas in the liberated countryside of Idlib are concentrated in Khan Sheikhoun, Sinjar and Abo Al-Duhur.
