“Syria through the Lens of Chileans” exhibition highlights details of life in Syria

The Chilean Embassy in Damascus has organized a photography exhibition for Chilean photographers at the Monastery of Saint Jacob (Deir Mar Yaqoub) in the city of Qara in Damascus Countryside.

The exhibition, titled “Syria through the Eyes of Chileans”, showcases many photographs for the Chilean artists; Eng. Mauricio Castieo, Lawyer Mario Araya Donoso and philosopher Gustavo Cataldo Sanguinetti who had visited Syria and documented through their cameras the Syrian cultural heritage as well as different aspects of life in the country. The themes of the photos varied between the archeological and humanitarian aspects as well as Syrian crafts.

The Chilean Ambassador to Syria Patricio Brickle said in a statement to SANA that cultural and academic cooperation between Syria and Chile is progressing, noting future plans to enhance this cooperation.

Brickle pointed out the idea of holding this exhibition came after seeing the creative works of the three Chilean photographers who pictured Syria and its lifestyle and culture during their visits to the country.

For her part, Head of Mar Yacoub Monastery, Mother Fadia Al-Lahham, said that the Chilean artists’ visits to Syria to picture the real life of the Syrians and show it to the Latin American communities will contribute to enhancing cultural dialogue and provide a real and beautiful image about the Syrian society.

She clarified that the content of such exhibitions expresses unity among peoples, particularly in the humanitarian field, and constitutes a means for cultural dialogue.

Director of Palmyra Museum Khalil Al-Hariri said that holding such exhibitions greatly contributes to conveying Syria’s real image abroad as the home of art and heritage and provides an opportunity for getting acquainted with different cultures.

One of the visitors of the exhibition described the event as a meeting place for the Syrian and Chilean cultures.

The exhibition will last until December 22nd, 2022.
