120 athletes competing in the Arab Weightlifting Championship in Damascus

Damascus (ST) – The Arab Weihlifting Championship was opened on Monday, at Al-Jalaa Sports City in Damascus, with the participation of 120 players representing the teams of Egypt, Yemen, Jordan, Libya, Palestine, Soudan and Syria.

The opening ceremony included dance performances, a documentary film of the Syrian city of Amrit and the establishment of the Olympic games there, and a film about the Syrian sport of weightlifting and the distinguished level by Syrian weightlifters.

General Sports Federation President Firas Mualla noted the role of the International Federation in organizing the championship in Syria, especially since the Syrian weightlifters are among the first competitors in the international championships.

The President of the International Weightlifting FederationbMuhammad Hassan Jalloud stressed the importance of the achievements made by the Syrian weightlifters in many foreign championships. He expressed the federation’s readiness to provide the required support for the Syrian weightlifters.
