11,956 candidates for local council elections in governorates under the age of forty and 11,230 women

The head of the Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections, Judge Counselor Jihad Murad said that the 59,498 candidates for local council elections vary between 11,956 young men under the age of forty and 11,230 women.

Judge Murad said that there are 21,191 candidates holding university degrees, including 3034 engineers and indicated  the importance of the local council elections that will be held on September 18.

He hoped for the success of the electoral process and the arrival of efficient administrative leaders to the local councils that need a lot of work to advance them.

He clarified that the judicial subcommittees in the governorates work in coordination with the governors to determine the polling stations and complete their work at least seven days before the specified election day.

Judge Murad confirmed that all the requirements of the electoral process have been secured, including logistical supplies, publications, envelopes, etc., and allocating a number of places isolated with curtains in each polling center to enable the voter from voting in secret.

He explained that voting is a right and duty for those who meet the conditions stipulated in the election law, and this right may not be exercised by proxy.

He said that the election takes place with a personal or military card and starts from seven in the morning until seven in the evening, and the Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections may extend the election period for a period of five hours at most.

The Director of Decision Support and Regional Planning in the governorate of Damascus Countryside  Abdul Razzaq Dhamiriya stated that the total number of candidates for the governorate of Damascus Countryside, for the administrative units and the governorate council is 6553, including 5637 males and 916 females.

It is noteworthy that the total number of cities in the governorate of Damascus Countryside is 26, in addition to 44 towns and 72 municipalities.
