11 countries, including Syria, in the Human Rights Council condemn the policies of countries that support Russophobia

Eleven countries from four continents in the world condemned in a joint statement, before the United Nations Human Rights Council, discrimination in a number of countries against Russians and Russian speakers.

Sputnik news agency quoted the signatory countries as saying: “We are deeply concerned about the unprecedented scope and depth of discrimination practiced by the authorities of a number of countries against Russians and Russian speakers in recent months,” noting that these discriminatory practices are a flagrant violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the obligations of the concerned states under international human rights instruments, the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, and other international instruments for the promotion and protection of human rights.

The signatories to the statement called on the governments of countries that suffer from “Russophobia” to immediately stop this hysteria, and the persecution of Russians and Russian-speaking people, and to return to the responsible fulfillment of their human rights obligations.

The Russian diplomatic mission to the United Nations stated that the signatories to the statement are Russia, Belarus, Bolivia, China, Ethiopia, Iran, North Korea, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Syria and Venezuela.
