Syrian Computer society in Homs

The communication revolution and the social communication sites played a big role in the political and social movements that took place in different parts of the world.

There was a serious challenge for the government in this area.

The Syria Times had a visit to the Computer Society in Homs and met Mr. Hassan Najjar, director of the association who told us about the exceptional services provided by the Assembly to the subscribers and the work mechanism of the Assembly during the crisis, Mr. Najjar said:

"Our society, which is a branch of the Syrian Computer Society, has an office for Internet Service Provider through which we provide subscribers with different services   We offer the card and dialup services to the areas that don’t have internet gates so that they can use internet by phone line, in addition to the exceptional technical support that we offer free 24 hours a day on the number 9955."

He stressed: "there are some problems experienced by subscribers. Most of these problems are summarized in the frequent interruption of network due to either the acts of sabotage by terrorists that affect the central or sub-optical cable that connects the governorates with the capital or because of the tight of the band and the increase in the number of the gates that are working on this band."

The General Telecom Establishment is seeking to increase bandwidth periodically in line with the increasing number of the gates installed in the governorates".

Talking about the role of network and social communication sites in reflecting the reality during the crisis, Mr. Najjar clarified: "The networks have played a major role in the crisis that hit the region in general and our country in particular. The national networks devoted their work to respond to the biased and partial media that distorted the truth of events taking place in Syria and in the Arab countries especially that advocates of the tendentious media have worked their best to depict false facts that fit with the movements of the so-called the external opposition and they used communication networks to disseminate these events so that they could attract the largest number of readers to form a kind of community regional , Arab and international case that fits their big Zionist project.

Locally and nationally there was a positive role for the national media organizations both public and private as well as the civil societies to play in clarifying the truth of what is going on in the street commensurate with maintaining the Syrian social fabric. But the US intelligence backed by Western intelligence have devoted all their efforts and their potentials to hit the Syrian-resistant structure which, in spite of all the challenges and circumstances, remains steadfast after more than four years of the crisis"

Mr. Najjar went on to say : "It is worth mentioning that there is a weakness in the social networking regarding the media reading and analytical process at the country level and that required to seek the help of a number of local and Arab media experiences to reflect the reality of what is happening in Syria".

"To organize and control the work mechanism of the great number of the created social communications web sites, there should be restrictions and strict control over these networks as well as activating the pages and sites that assume responsibility to depict the truth and respond to malicious online networks," he added.

Highlighting the role of the civil societies, Najjar said: "Civil community had played an important role in the steadfastness of the country that we rely on in the future At the same time we cannot underestimated the prominent role played by NGOs as they practiced an important role with international organizations. Especially that these organizations have today essential prerequisites for dealing. They do not accept to deal with governments but with civil communities. Indeed these societies have proved highly meritorious sense responsibility in terms of providing relief and the physical and psychological support for the citizens".
