The countdown for the historical presidential elections in Syria began with the Syrians being hopeful that these elections will save the country from the ongoing war and establish a new national political era that perpetuates political pluralism in the country.

Syria's sovereign decision to hold presidential elections on time reflects the Syrian people's determination to uproot terrorism from their homeland, restore security and stability to the country, reconstruct what the armed terrorist groups had damaged and build Syria on stronger democratic bases; democratic bases that are absent in many countries, mainly the Gulf ones, which have been conspiring and participating in shedding the Syrian blood.

About 1500 Polling Stations and 5.000 Ballot Boxes for Presidential Election in Damascus

DAMASCUS,(ST)_There would be about 5.000 ballot boxes and  1500 polling stations in all the quarters of Damascus, Dr.Besher al-Sabban said on Monday.

Damascus governor, who was speaking in a meeting with the chiefs and committees of Damascus's quarters, underlined the importance of containing the big increase in the number of the displaced persons coming to the capital due to the current circumstances.

Dr. Bashar Hafez Al-Assad Declares Himself Presidential Candidate

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Dr.  Bashar Hafez Al-Assad on Monday submitted to the Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) an application of candidacy for the post of President of the Syrian Arab Republic.

Speaker of the People's Assembly (PA) Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham announced that the PA received from the SCC a notification announcing that Dr. Bashar Hafez Al-Assad had submitted his candidacy application attached with required documents.

 Al-Assad's bid raises the number of Presidential candidates to seven.

Dr.  Bashar Hafez Al-Assad is now president of the Syrian Arab Republic and here is his CV:

Born in Damascus, September 11, 1965.

Finished his high secondary school at Al-Hurriah Institute in Damascus in 1982.

PA Notified of four New Presidential Candidacy Applications

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Speaker of the People's Assembly (PA) Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham announced on Sunday that the PA had received four new notifications from the Supreme Constitutional Court SCC saying that Mrs. Sawsan Omar Haddad, Mr. Sameer Ahmad Mu'alla, Mr. Mohammad Firas Yaseen Rajouh and Mr. Abdul Salam Yousef had submitted applications of candidacy for the post of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic.

Presidency welcomes democratic candidacy process

DAMASCUS, (ST)_ Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic has welcomed the democratic and free atmosphere in the stage of candidacy for the office of president of the republic.

In a statement released today, the presidency said:" Submission of several candidates' applications to the Supreme Constitutional Court is a democratic and positive atmosphere and it is an implementation of the constitution and laws."

It called on all Syrian citizens to positively deal with the process that offers many options for them when they vote.
