Relations between Syria and Iran Based on Respecting People’s Will to Determine Their Future

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Relations between Syria and Iran are based on principles, morals and on respecting people’s will to determine their future away from foreign interference, President Bashar Al-Assad stressed during his meeting on Monday with Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, Head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, and the accompanying delegation.

President Al-Assad affirmed that this approach has contributed to perpetuating the independence of the two countries, reiterating the need to adopt this relationship as a base for creating a bigger network of relations particularly with the countries which agree with both Syria and Iran in terms of policies.

The meeting focused on the decades old relations between the two countries and on ways to boost these ties in the political and economic fields as to serve the interests of the peoples of both countries.

 On his part, the Iranian lawmaker said the deep-rooted cultural heritage the peoples of the two countries enjoy has formed a solid base to face the countries which stand on shaky ground because they have adopted immoral policies that violate International Law either through using terrorism as a tool to achieve their interests or through imposing sanctions on the countries with which they differe in policy.

During the meeting, viewpoints of the two sides on regional and international issues were identical with special focus on continuous ccordination.

In the same context, Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affaris and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem held a meeting with Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh and the accompanying delegation. Talks dealt with bilateral relations and the mutual will to enhance these relations in all domains.

The talks also dealt with the latest political developments in Syria and the region as well as the continuous victories being achieved by the Syrian Arab army and its allies over terrorism.
