Lavrov Calls for International Assistance in Syria Reconstruction after Crisis

MOSCOW, (ST)- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stressed the importance of international assistance in the reconstruction of Syria after the crisis.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that a phone conversation between Lavrov and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi focused on developments in the Middle East, mainly in Syria, in the light of the ongoing successful military operation against terrorism in southwestern Syria.

Lavrov noted the importance of speeding up the process of returning the Syrian displaced people to their home.

 The Russian foreign ministry statement also said that Safadi highly appreciated Russia's efforts to help displaced Syrians return home from world countries, including Jordan. He said his country is “fully ready” to cooperate with Moscow in this respect.

The Jordanian top diplomat also informed the Russian FM of the arrival of the so-called White Helmets members in Jordan in order to be resettled later in other countries.

Israeli forces has evacuated hundreds of White Helmets members and their families from southern Syria to Jordan after their conspiring role in Syria was uncovered.

The White Helmets, which claimed to be an aid group, has worked with terrorists in Syria and forged reports of chemical attacks in the country.
