Al-Sisi: Political solution in Syria must guarantee Syria’s unity and territorial integrity, complete elimination of terrorism

NEW YORK, (ST)-A comprehensive political solution of the crisis in Syria has become an urgent issue that the international community must take into consideration, President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi stressed in a statement via video during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.

Al-Sisi reiterated that the political solution in Syria must embody the Syrian people’s aspirations and guarantee Syria’s unity, territorial integrity, safety of its institutions as well as the complete elimination of terrorism in the country.

He pointed out that it is no longer acceptable to keep the binding Security Council resolutions on combating terrorism unimplemented by some countries and it is regrettable that the international community continues to turn a blind eye to the support of some countries for terrorists, whether through funding and arming them or through providing them with a safe haven as well as strong media access and political support.

The Egyptian President said that his country adheres to the process of achieving political settlement in Libya led by the United Nations on the basis of the signed political agreement.

He made it clear that “if we truly seek the implementation of international resolutions and the achievement of lasting peace and security in the Middle East, then the Palestinian cause should be given top priority, because the Palestinian people are still looking forward to restoring their simplest human rights, including their right to live in their independent state.”
