Cyprus asks the International Court of Justice to protect its maritime rights

Cyprus has asked the International Court of Justice to protect its rights pertaining to  maritime resources , the Turkish regime continuously causes provocation in maritime areas under Cypriot sovereignty, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades said.

"our country is committed to protecting its sovereign rights by all possible legal means," Anastasiades told reporters in Nicosia, adding that this was precisely the purpose of his country's request to the international court.

The regime of Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced in May its intention to conduct gas exploration in an area of the Mediterranean Sea near the Cypriot coasts, while Nicosia stressed that the Turkish regime authorities has  sent a drilling vessel to an area off its coasts and that constitutes a serious escalation and a new violation of its sovereign rights.

Earlier, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades condemned the Turkish aggression on Syrian territory. Anastasiades said in a statement that the Turkish aggression is another unacceptable despotism aimed at serving Turkish interests and represents an illegal act and is not justified in any way.
