Foreign Ministry: Syria calls on the Security Council to take firm measures to prevent the recurrence of Israeli attacks on its territory

Damascus (ST):  Syria renewed its call on the UN Security Council and the UN General Secretariat to assume their responsibilities within the framework of the UN Charter and condemn and stop the Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, and take firm and immediate measures to prevent their recurrence.

In a letter sent by the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Ministry to the UN Secretary-General  and the President of the Security Council, the Ministry said: “In the context of the continuation of the Israeli occupation authorities with their terrorist policies and crimes against the sovereignty of countries in the region, and its persistence in violating Security Council resolutions related to the crisis in Syria, Israeli forces carried out at 1.26 minutes am today an air attack on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, by launching bursts of missiles from southeast Beirut targeting the vicinity of the capital, Damascus.

The ministry said: “This cowardly Israeli attack comes to complete a series of violations and crimes by “Israel” against Syria and its people, especially in terms of Israel’s continuation of providing all forms of support to its terrorists and its tools and obstructing the political solution to the crisis in Syria.

The Ministry added: Syria once again warns “Israel” of the dangerous repercussions of its attacks under false pretexts, its continuous support for terrorist organizations, its continued occupation of Arab lands and its brutal suppression of the legitimate aspirations of the Arab masses in the occupied territories, including the occupied Syrian Golan.

The ministry went on to say that Syria holds the Israeli entity fully responsible for these crimes and affirms that the repeated Israeli attacks will not discourage the Syrian government from carrying out its constitutional duty to continue combating all terrorist organizations that continue to wreak havoc and sabotage in Syria and whose fate will be failure and fall.

The Ministry clarified that the Syrian Arab Republic, as a founding member of the United Nations, once again calls on the Security Council and the UN General Secretariat  to carry out their responsibilities within the framework of the Charter of the United Nations, the most important of which is maintaining international peace and security, condemning and stopping the blatant Israeli attacks, holding Israel accountable for them and taking firm and immediate measures to prevent their recurrence.

The ministry concluded by saying that Syria also calls for the Israeli entity to be obligated to respect all United Nations resolutions and to hold it accountable for its terrorism and crimes against Syria, Palestine and Lebanon, all of which constitute flagrant violations of the UN Charter, the provisions of international law, Security Council resolutions No. 242, 338, 350, 497, Resolution 1701 and all other resolutions.
