Dr. Al-Miqdad reviews with a number of Omani officials means of strengthening bilateral cooperation and developments of the situation in Syria

Muscat (ST):  On the second day of his visit to the Sultanate of Oman, Foreign and  Expatriates Minister , Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad  discussed with the Minister of the Royal Office of Oman Lieutenant-General Sultan Al-Nu'mani the efforts being made to strengthen the ties between the two brotherly countries and serve the national interests.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Miqdad conveyed the greetings  and good wishes of President Bashar Al-Assad to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Sa'id, and reviewed with Minister Al-Nu'mani the latest developments related to the situation in Syria and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields.

 

Al-Nu'mani expressed the Sultanate’s appreciation for the depth of the fraternal relationship with Syria, stressing that it will overcome the crisis it has experienced and regain its position and role in the region and the world thanks to the steadfastness of its people and their defense of their land.

Dr. Al-Miqdad and his Omani counterpart Badr Al-Busaidi also held a session of talks to enhance bilateral cooperation , as Minister Al-Miqdad referred to the distinguished fraternal relationship between  the two states, which was not affected during the years of the war imposed on Syria, stressing the importance of continuing cooperation and joint work in the interest of the two countries and the region.

Regarding the most important developments related to the Constitution Committee, Dr. Al-Miqdad stressed that its work must be based on agreement on national principles, in particular the unity of the Syrian territories, and that the Syrian people have the exclusive right to determine their future, and the need to continue fighting terrorism, pointing out that the most dangerous threat to the work of the committee is Western countries' interference to impose special action plans or timetables on it.

Following the talks, an agreement was signed for the mutual exemption of visa requirements between the two sides for holders of diplomatic, special and service passports.

Dr. Al-Miqdad also met with the Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and the Special Representative of His Majesty Sultan, Asaad bin Tariq Al Sa'id  and reviewed with him prospects of cooperation between Syria and the Sultanate in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.

 Minister Al-Miqdad presented during the meeting the efforts made by the Syrian government to restore security and stability to all parts of Syria, create conditions for the return of refugees and start the reconstruction process. The discussion also dealt with the latest developments related to the work of the constitution discussion committee.

For his part, the Omani Deputy Prime Minister affirmed the depth of the good relations between the two sides and the continued efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

 Dr. al-Miqdad and the accompanying delegation met with representatives of the Syrian community in the Sultanate of Oman at the headquarters of the Syrian embassy in Muscat. He reviewed the developments of the situation in Syria and the efforts being exerted to restore stability in it, affirming welcome for the return of refugees and displaced persons to their homeland and participation in the reconstruction process.

The  Minister stressed the importance of continuing communication between the community and the embassy to enhance national cohesion, while the community in the Sultanate of Oman expressed their hope that Syria would return to its normal state, stressing their readiness to contribute to supporting the reconstruction and providing everything that serves the interest of their motherland, Syria.
