Syria condemns aggression against its sovereignty and warns that it will lead to adverse consequences on the situation in the region

Damascus (ST): Syria condemned in the strongest terms the American aggression on areas in Deir Ezzour near the Syrian-Iraqi border last night and stressed that it constitutes a negative indication of the policies of the new American administration, which are supposed to adhere to international legitimacy, not the jungle law.

The Foreign and Expatriate Ministry in the Syrian Arab Republic said in a statement : “In a blatant violation of the provisions of international law and the UN Charter, the US warplanes  committed last night cowardly aggression by bombing some areas in Deir Ezzour province near the Syrian-Iraqi border.

The statement added that this brazen American aggression coincided with the presence of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Syria, Geir Pedersen, in Damascus, and this represents a message of American disregard for the role of international legitimacy in resolving the crisis in Syria.

The Foreign Ministry stated that this blatant aggression is a new episode in the series of repeated attacks by the Israeli occupation forces, the so-called “international coalition” attacks, the Turkish occupation and the crimes of armed terrorist organizations against the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic, under flimsy pretexts or other shameful justifications that US administration officials brag with rudeness forgetting about their previous terrorist attacks that led to the death of hundreds of innocent Syrians ignoring that these attacks will only spread chaos, destroy the Syrian infrastructure, increase tension. This is directly in the interest of the armed terrorist organizations, foremost among which is "ISIS" and the terrorist Al-Nusra Front, which the American occupier seeks to secure all the requirements for their continuation in order to justify its occupation of parts of the territories of the Syrian Arab Republic in a manner that violates the provisions of international law, the UN Charter, human rights conventions and all resolutions of the Council Security related to Syria, which all stipulate a condemnation of terrorism and respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria.

The Ministry went on to say that the Syrian Arab Republic condemns in the strongest terms the American aggression against its sovereignty, which contradicts with the provisions of international law and the UN Charter and with its role as a permanent member of the Security Council concerned with the maintenance of international peace and security. The Ministry warned that this aggression will lead to consequences that will escalate the situation in the region, it also constitutes a negative indication of the policies of the new American administration, which are supposed to adhere to international legitimacy, not to the law of the jungle, which the previous US administration used to pursue to deal with regional and international crises in the world.

The statement continued that the Syrian Arab Republic calls on the US to change its aggressive approach towards it and to stop aggression against its sovereignty and to halt its support in its various forms to armed terrorist organizations that target Syria as a state, people and infrastructure, and to stop investing in it, which was recently evidenced by the transfer of hundreds of its "ISIS" terrorists from prisons controlled by the "SDF militia" in the province of Hasakah to its base in Al-Tanf on the Syrian-Jordanian border, and also to refrain from creating chaos by fueling conditions and conflicts and seeking to prolong the crisis and obstruct a solution to it.

The Ministry stated that the government of the Syrian Arab Republic affirms its determination to recover every speck of soil from the lands of the Syrian Arab Republic, liberate it from the occupation and terrorism, and rebuild what the terrorists and their sponsors have destroyed.

The Ministry concluded its statement by saying: “The Syrian Arab Republic calls once again on the Security Council to assume its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security and to move immediately to stop a permanent member from continuing his aggression and crimes against a sovereign state and a UN founding member and to prevent the recurrence of these aggressive policies. It also demanded the Council to put an end to the Israeli, American and Turkish occupation of the Syrian Arab lands and preventing these occupiers from implementing their plans aimed at undermining the territorial integrity the Syrian Arab Republic.
