Syria affirms its legitimate right to defend the sovereignty of the Syrian territories and protect its citizens against Israeli attacks by all legitimate means

Damascus (ST): The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry affirmed that the criminal Israeli aggression in the vicinity  of Hama city today constitutes a flagrant violation of the sanctity and sovereignty of Syrian territories, as well as a blatant attack on  Human Rights and International Law, calling on the United Nations and the Human Rights Council to assume their responsibilities in condemning these attacks.

In a letter sent to the UN  Secretary-General, the President of the UN Security Council and the President of the Human Rights Council, the Ministry said “ On Friday 22/ 1 /2021, Israel committed a new aggression on the lands of the Syrian Arab Republic in the vicinity of the city of Hama.  As a result, a family  constituting a father, a mother, and two children were killed. Four other citizens from the same family were wounded, and a number of innocent civilians' homes were destroyed.

The Ministry added that this criminal aggression comes as a continuation of the Israeli attacks, which in less than a year amounted to more than fifty, during which a large number of civilians' lives were lost and their property destroyed.

The ministry noted that the aggression is not only a blatant violation of the sanctity and sovereignty of the territories of the Syrian Arab Republic, but a flagrant violation of human rights and international law.

The ministry continued, “the Syrian Arab Republic deplored the  terrible silence on the part of many in the international community, especially those who speak out about human rights, towards these blatant attacks, which encourage the usurper Israeli occupation entity to press ahead with its attacks on Syria in a suspicious coincidence with terrorist groups' crimes.

Concluding its letter, the ministry stressed that the Syrian Arab Republic, when it appeals to the United Nations and the Human Rights Council, to fulfill their responsibilities in condemning these Israeli attacks, which pose a serious threat to security and stability in the region, affirms its insistence on its legitimate right to defend the sanctity and sovereignty of the Syrian territories and to protect its citizens from these attacks by all legitimate means, which are guaranteed by all international norms and conventions.
