Youths launch "Damascene Jasmine" activity

A group of youths launch an activity called "Damascene Jasmine" to brief society about activities and initiatives being carried out within shelters (in which displaced families are temporary living) and outside them.

The three-day activity, organized by the Syria Trust for Development in cooperation with Charity Commission for Relief the Palestinian People, is to be kicked off on Saturday morning (on April 13 ) at THE Art House in Mezzeh area in Damascus.

According to a press release sent to the Syria Times, the activity contains exhibition for collection of paintings, bazar, auction, music playing, and a film.

Those who are interested in the activity can buy ticket from 8 locations in Damascus at the amount SP100 to attend a show.

Revenues are to go to support other aid and development initiatives.

Armed forces target terrorist groupings in several sites

PROVINCES,(ST)_Units of armed forces targeted on Friday several terrorist groupings in countryside of Damascus, Homs, Hama, and Idleb, killing and injuring a lot of terrorists.

According to SANA, the armed forces wiped out terrorists' hideouts and vehicles in the said provinces and inflicted heavy losses upon terrorists there.

Dozens of terrorists, who were in the hideouts, were killed or injured.

Meanwhile, Hama city and Aleppo province saw fighting between armed forces and terrorist groups resulted in eliminating a number of terrorists and seizing their weapons.

In another development, two terrorist groups' bid to infiltrate into Syria from Lebanon through  Homs countryside was repelled by armed forces and border guards.

Syria is in a state of war and its army is doing its duty as regard defending homeland and citizens, and fighting terrorist groups to restore stability and security to the country.

The terrorist groups, who are exported from 40 countries, perpetrate heinous crimes against citizens and destroy the country's infrastructure, are funded and supported by Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Britain, France, and the US.


Granddaughters of Sweida's Militant Women honored

SWEIDA,(ST)_Marking the 67th  anniversary of the evacuation Day of the French colonists from Syria, Sweida' s Women 's Union WU branch on Thursday  honored granddaughters of women fighters, who fought against the French occupation  in thegovernorate.

Sheikh Yasser Abu Fakhr said that the  evacuation was  as a result of our people 's enlightened thought against all types of  colonialism which tried to undermine Syria 's history and geography,  stressing that the value of martyrdom  as a sublime doctrine  for the sake of the homeland.

The  awardees  expressed pride over the heroism of their ancestors who wrote brighter epics of nationalism to attain  freedom, calling on all Syrians to preserve the legacy of their ancestors and follow  their footsteps in order to defend  the country and ensure its sovereignty and independence.

Damascus warns against spread of terrorism in ME

DAMASCUS,(ST)_Syria has called on the UN Security Council to list 'al-Nusra Front in the Levant among al-Qaeda-affiliated organizations according to the UN resolutions No.1267 issued in  1999 and No 1989 issued in 2011.

The call came after posting audio recording released by al-Qaeda organization's leader on internet.

The audio recordings were released on April 7-9-10 by al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri, and Leader of the 'Islamic State of Iraq', Abu Baker al-Baghdadi, as well as al-Nusra Front's leader in Syria Abu Mohammad al-Golani.

According to the recordings, al-Baghdadi said that his group and al-Nusra Front would operate under united leadership called the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant.

While al-Golani said: "As al-Nusra Front had received assistance from the Islamic State of Iraq, his group would continue operating under its own banner, with Loyalty to al-Zawahri."

"These statements attributed to al-Qaeda organization's leaders proves what the Syrian Arab Republic stressed in previous letters sent to the UNSC as regard the armed terrorist groups' affiliation to al-Qaeda and dangerous of crimes being perpetrated by them in Syria," Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said.

It added: "Syrian Arab Republic warns against spread of terrorism in the Middle East region and outside it as the International Community turns deaf ear to crimes being perpetrated by al-Qaeda-linked Takfiri terrorist  groups and the so-called "Free Syrian Army" in Syria."

In two identical letters sent on Thursday by the ministry to Security Council's Head and UN Secretary General, it was referred to the fact that some states have hindered the UN condemnation of the terrorist organizations' crimes documented by the Syrian government.

Inaction encourages terrorists

The international community's inaction, the letters read, has encouraged terrorists to go ahead with their crimes against Syrian citizens through suicide bombings and random mortar shells targeting homes, state services establishments, hospitals, mosques and churches.   

 The ministry also noted that international reports talked about transporting sophisticated weapons to terrorists, recently delivered to terrorist groups in Daraa province.

The transportation was funded by Saudi Arabia and Qatar, according to the reports.

The Ministry appealed to the UNSC to shoulder its responsibility under the UN resolutions related to combating terrorism and call on states involved in supporting terrorism in Syria to halt violations that threaten security and stability in the region and the world as well.

Premier hails the working class for protecting private and public establishments

Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi asserted that the working class is the main base in protecting the public and private establishments as a common property for all people and in rebuilding new Syria after getting out of the crisis soon thanks to the unity of people and to their determination to make a success to the forthcoming national dialogue conference.

Al-Halqi's remarks came during a meeting held between the ministerial committee charged with implementing the political program for solving the crisis in Syria and members of the political bureau of the Trade Unions’ General Federation headed by Mohammad Shaaban Azzouz.

Al-Halqi underlined the government’s seriousness and truth in summoning all political and social parties, including outside opposition and armed groups that give preference to abandon arms, to take part in the dialogue.

Premier also outlined the measures taken by the government in tackling and settling the issues of detainees and kidnapped and in supporting dialogue on the basis of national belonging, adherence to national entity and renouncing foreign intervention.

For his part, Azzouz highlighted the Federation’s cooperation with the government in implementing the political program which in its turn works hardly to enhance the national economy steadfastness, ensure citizens daily life needs and to confront all crises.


Defense Minister inspects injured soldiers, dozens of non-Syrian terrorists killed

PROVINCES,(ST)_Defense Minister underscored on Thursday that Syria will achieve victory over aggression thanks to its people's awareness and support for armed forces.

LT. Gen. Fahed al-Frej's remark came during his visit to the military hospital of Yousef al-Admeh to inspect situation of injured soldiers.

He highly praised the armed forces' readiness to offer sacrifices in order to defend citizens and homeland against foreign enemies and their tools inside the country.  

Meanwhile, armed forces eliminated dozens of non-Syrian terrorists of Jordanian, Egyptian, Saudi Arabian, Kuwaiti, Yemini, Moroccan,  and Libyan nationalities.

The Nusra Front-affiliated terrorists were eliminated and their weapons were destroyed in qualitative operations carried out by armed forces in different villages in countryside of Lattakia, according to SANA. 

It was also reported that the armed forces inflicted heavy losses upon terrorists in several sites in countryside of Damascus, Der Ezzour, and Homs.

On the other hand, the armed forces found one ton of explosives inside a factory for producing explosive devices in west farms of Daraya suburb in Damascus countryside.

They, in addition, killed many terrorists in clashes broke out in the same suburb. 

Furthermore, a terrorist group's attempt to sneak into Syria from Lebanon was foiled yesterday by armed forces and boarder guards.

Armed groups expel locals in Hama

As for situation in Hama province, al-Watan newspaper reported that the armed groups had expelled citizens from their homes in several villages in Hama countryside because they had rejected to stand by them.

It clarified that armed groups used the homes, schools and some official centers to attack army posts.

"The armed groups use private and public cars, which they have stolen from state establishments and citizens, in their attacks," the paper added.

It sees that the armed groups' current escalation in the countryside comes as a result of their failure to make gains in Hamas city.

120 terrorists killed in Daraa

Regarding situation in Daraa province, al-Khabar TV channel reported that 120 terrorists were killed and 200 were arrested in qualitative operation carried out yesterday.

President al-Assad Decrees on Establishing 2nd Faculty of Medicine in Tartous

DAMASCUS,(ST)- President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday issued decree No. 136 for 2013.

The decree  provides for the establishment of the 2nd  Faculty of Medicine in Tartous Governorate.

The Faculty is affiliated to Tishreen University.
