Syria receives second batch of advanced Russian /MiG 29/ jet fighters

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Russia has handed over the second batch of the advanced Russian jet fighter aircraft /Mig 29/ to the Syrian Arab Army  within the framework of the military and technical cooperation between the Syrian Arab Republic and Russia, a military source said on Saturday.

The source added that the aircrafts, which are more advanced and effective than the previous generation of Russian combat planes, implemented flights from Hmeimim airbase towards their positions in the Syrian military airbases.

Starting from June 1, 2020, the Syrian pilots will start using these planes to carry out their scheduled shifts in the Syrian airspace.

Russia has been assisting the Syrian Arab Army in its war on terrorism since September 2015 at a request from the Syrian Arab Republic.
