Ala condemns savage Israeli violations of Syrian citizens' rights in occupied Golan
Geneva, (ST): Syria has denounced the systematic violations perpetrated by the Israeli occupation authorities against Syrian people in the occupied Syrian Golan, which run contrary to UN resolutions and the Fourth Geneva Convention signed in 1949.
The condemnation came in a letter directed today by Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Ambassador Hussam Eddin Ala to the president of the Special Committee in charge of Investigating Israeli Practices Affecting Human Rights of Palestinian People and Other Arabs of Occupied Territories.
The letter demanded that more attention be paid to the human situation of the people in the occupied Syrian Golan and to reinforce the international denunciations of the violations committed by “Israel” against the Syrian citizens in the occupied Golan.
Ala warned against the acceleration of Israeli settlement activities, the plundering of natural resources in the occupied Golan and violations of the rights of occupied Golan citizens in light of the unlimited support and sponsorship that Israel receives from the current US administration to press ahead in its illegitimate policies and practices and protecting it against international accountability.
The ambassador referred to some reports issued by the UN Secretary-General and the Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), highlighting prejudiced practices and unfair restrictions imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities on the Syrian citizens in the occupied Golan, adding that these reports affirmed the illegality of constructing and expanding the Israeli settlement blocks and the transfer of the population to the occupied territory.
Ala also warned against the danger of Israeli attempts to seize natural resources in the occupied Syrian Golan and the possessions of Syrian citizens under numerous pretexts.
The Syrian diplomat reaffirmed condemnation of the occupation authorities’ violation of international law and UNSC resolutions, calling on the UN member states not to recognize any legal status stemming from the activities of the occupation authorities.
He also called for the cessation to of assistance to the Israeli occupation, especially in the business, commercial and tourist activities.
Concluding his letter Ala stressed that the colonialist policies pursued by the Israeli occupation authorities constitute flagrant violations of the occupied Golan people's civil, political, socio-economic and cultural rights, calling on the committee to denounce these gross violations in its reports to the UN General Assembly and the Human Rights Council affiliated to the UN.
