Turkish aggression on Syrian territories has so far led to displacement of 160,000 people: UN

UNIITED NATIONS, (ST)- The Turkish aggression on Syrian territories in Hasaka and Raqqa provinces continues, for the sixth consecutive day, to target the infrastructure and residential neighborhoods in these areas, displacing tens of thousands of people and creating a tragic humanitarian situation.

In a statement on Monday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that the Turkish aggression on the Syrian territories in Hasaka and Raqqa has generated many civilian casualties and displaced up to 160,000 people in less than a week, according to the SANA.

He expressed his fears that the Turkish military operation could lead to the fleeing of scores of Daesh terrorists who might regroup themselves for future terror attacks.

In the meantime, the European Union Foreign Policy Chief  Federica Mogherini reaffirmed that the Turkish aggression would further complicate the situation in the region.

In a statement to journalists following the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxemborg, Mogherini warned that the Turkish aggression would open the door for the return of Daesh terrorist organization.

She pointed out that the European Union supports all the political efforts that aim at solving the crisis in Syria politically.
