President Lukashenko Meets al-Moallem, Stresses Belarus's Firm Support for Syria's War on Terrorism

MINSK, (ST)- Belarusian President Aleksander Lukashenko and Syria's Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem on Monday discussed latest developments in Syria, the region and the world. Discussions focused on means of enhancing bilateral ties and boosting cooperation and consultations in the service of the interests of Syria and Belarus.

Al-Moallem conveyed President Bashar Al-Assad's greetings and best wishes to President Lukashenko and expressed the Syrian people's high appreciation over the principled and firm stances of Belarus in support for Syria in the confrontation of the terrorist war and at international forums and organizations.

 He thanked President Lukashenko for Belarus's humanitarian initiative represented in hosting a number of Syrian children, including martyrs' children and others who have lost parental care, in camps in the capital Minsk where artistic and entertainment activities were held and health and psychological services were provided to the Syrian children. He noted the positive impacts of these camps on the Syrian children's social and psychological conditions and hailed their role in boosting friendship ties as well as cultural and social relations between the peoples of the two friendly countries.

Al-Moallem talked about the latest developments in Syria and its war on terrorism, affirming that Syria will continue fighting terrorism with all its forms, including economic terrorism being practiced by the United States and its allies through imposing siege and coercive economic measures on Syria, until it is completely eliminated and security and stability are restored to the entire Syrian territory.

The Syrian top diplomat, who stressed Syria's keenness on boosting relations with Belarus, particularly in economy, welcomed Belarus's participation in Syria's reconstruction process and expressed Syria's readiness to provide all necessary facilitations to Belarusian companies to effectively take part in this process.

On his part, the Belarusian president stressed his country's firm support for Syria, as a leadership and people, in the face of the terrorist war, highly appreciated Syria's policy in this regard and reiterating the importance of cooperation with Syria in the confrontation of terrorism.

He affirmed Belarus's desire to enhance friendship and cooperation with Syria in all domains.

Lukashenko pointed out that the program launched by Belarus, which included hosting hundreds of Syrian martyrs' children, expresses Belarus's appreciation for the sacrifices of the fathers of these children in the fight against terrorism and for Syria's efforts to defend its rights, sovereignty and citizens. He affirmed his country's readiness to help the Syrian people reconstruct their country.

Lukashenko asked al-Moallem to convey his greetings to President Al-Assad, expressing his appreciation over the brave and principled stances of the Syrian leadership.

Al-Moallem, Makei hold talks 

Earlier in the day, al-Maollem and his Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Makei held talks at the Belarusian Foreign Ministry's headquarters during which the two sides discussed enhancing bilateral ties up to the hoped-for level that achieves the interests of the two countries. The talks were attended by diplomats representing the two countries.

Al-Moallem affirmed the importance of boosting economic cooperation, noting the need to resume the meetings of the Syrian-Belarusian joint committee and reactivate the signed cooperation agreements and memos. He called on Belarus to actively take part in the reconstruction process in Syria.

The Syrian top diplomat reiterated Syria's rejection of foreign interference in its internal affairs, hailing Belarus's stances which support Syria and are based on respecting international law and countries' sovereignty and on the principle of noninterference in countries' internal affairs.

Makei, on his part, said that al-Moallem's visit to Belarus proves the strength of relations between the two countries and it will contribute to enhancing them in all domains.

He asserted his country's support for Syria's sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity, expressing hope that security and stability will be returned to all Syrian areas.
