Improving Humanitarian Situation in Syria Necessitates Stopping Foreign Interference in the Country, Supporting Its Humanitarian Efforts

NEW YORK, (ST)- Improving the humanitarian situation in Syria can be realized by stopping political, military and economic interference in Syria's affairs, by complete commitment to respecting Syria's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, by lifting the illegal western coercive economic measures imposed on Syria and supporting the Syrian state's humanitarian and development efforts and in fighting terrorism and ending illegal foreign presence of US, British, French and Turkish forces in the entire Syrian territories, Syria's Permanent Representative at the United nations Bashar al-Jaafari has stressed.

During a Security Council Session on Tuesday on the situation in Syria, al-Jaafari reiterated that Syria will spare no effort to assist and provide necessary support for all Syrian citizens affected by the crisis in the country and to rebuild what terrorism and aggression have destroyed.

It is the Syrian state's duty to defend its citizens against terrorism

He affirmed that no country in the world stands cross-handed while terrorists control one of its areas, use the locals of this area as human shields and keep attacking civilians in neighboring cities and towns with shells and rockets. He reiterated that it is the Syrian state's duty to defend its citizens against terrorism.

He criticized the UN Chief's report on the humanitarian situation in Syria, noting that most pages of the report were dedicated to speaking about the situation in Idleb according to the vision of United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and its open sources of information aiming to accuse the Syrian government and distort its reputation instead of building partnership as well as establishing full coordination and cooperation with this government to solve the humanitarian file.

Report ignores crimes committed by US-led Colition and Turkish occupation forces against the Syrians

The Syrian senior diplomat made it clear that those who prepared the report, didn't hold the US-led coalition as well as the Turkish occupation forces and their affiliated militias and terrorist groups responsible for the war crimes and crimes against humanity they committed in Raqqa, Hajin, Baghouz, Deir Ezzor, Tel Rif'at, Efrin, Manbej and other Syria cities and for the very critical situation civilians are suffering in the areas where US occupation troops have presence, such as al-Rukban and al-Hawl camps.

Al-Jaafari went on to say that the report included information about the departure of thousands of foreign terrorists from al-Hawl camp. He asked where these foreign terrorists have been transferred to and wondered whether they will be regrouped and reinforced in Turkey to enter Syria again like what happened before when thousands of terrorists were transferred from the Syrian northeastern areas to Turkey in order to help them launch attacks on residential areas in Syria's northwestern region, like the city of Kasab, or enter Idleb and its countryside.   He also asked who funded and facilitated the process of transferring the terrorists.

Al-Jaafri went on to say that representative of some member western countries are not ready to discuss the issue of the terrorism which has been targeting Syria and has been funded, armed and supplied with tens of thousands of foreign terrorists coming from a hundred countries which are members in the United Nations. They don't also want to discuss the issue of economic terrorism and the collective punishment policies of their government, represented in imposing unilateral coercive economic measures on the Syrian people.  They are also not ready to discuss their government's role in prolonging the crisis, hindering political settlement efforts and increasing the Syrians suffering.

Elsewhere in the statement, al-Jaafari said that the talk about intentional targeting of civilians, infrastructure and civil facilities in dleb by the Syrian government and its allies is nothing but allegations and baseless claims.

SAMS provides services to terrorists in Idleb not the civilians

In response to statements by some representative of member countries, al-Jaafari said that representative of the US delegation hailed the work of the so-called "Syrian-American Medical Society (SAMS) in Syria, a matter that exposes the affiliation of this society to the American intelligence bodies.

He said that SAMS has not obtained a license to work in Syria, so it works illegally in the country in contrary with UN Charter, the resolutions of the Security Council and UN General Assembly as well as Geneva Conventions and the rules of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Committees.

He pointed out that the executive director of this society said that they provided 14 million medical services in Idleb, where 99% of the area is controlled by the terrorists of Jabhat al-Nusra. The figure proves cooperation between the society and this terrorist organization.

This means that the society is providing its services to the terrorist groups in Idleb not to the Syrian civilians there, al-Jaafari said.
