Syria Offers Condolences to Iraq over Victims of Ferry Sinking

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has expressed deep sorrow over the ferry sinking incident in Tigris river  that claimed the lives of more than 90 Iraqis, most of them women and children, an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Friday.

The source added that the Syrian Arab Republic deeply sympathizes with the brotherly Iraqi people over this painful incident and expresses heartfelt condolences to the Iraqi government and the bereaved families of the victims.

 On Thursday, scores of people died when an overloaded ferry sank in the Tigris river near Mosul in Iraq.

Medical sources said that most of the casualties on the ferry were women and children who could not swim.
