Syria Welcomes Agreement on Demilitarized Zone in Idleb

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has welcomed the agreement reached on Monday in the Russian city of Sochi on Idleb, stressing that it was a result of intensified consultations and full coordination between the Syrian State and the Russian Federation, according to an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

In a statement to SANA on Tuesday, the source said that Syria reiterates that it always supports any initiative aiming to stop blood shedding in Syria and to contribute to restoring security to any area hit by terrorism. It will also press ahead with its fight against terrorism until the entire Syrian territory is liberated either by military operations or by local reconciliations, the source added.

 The source pointed out that Idleb agreement has a time framework, and is part of the previous agreements on de-escalation zones which have resulted from Astana process on Syria since the beginning of 2017 and which has stressed the commitment of the guarantor states to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and to liberating the entire Syrian territories from terrorists or from any illegal foreign military presence.
