Syria Won't Surrender to Political Blackmail and Threats of Aggression: al-Jaafari

NEW YORK, (ST)- Syria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari has stressed that Syria is fighting terrorism on behalf of the entire world and that it will not surrender to political blackmail and threats of direct aggression by the United States, Britain and France.

During a Security Council session on Thursday, al-Jaafari said "the language of threats doesn't work at this council. We are diplomats and our mission is to prevent wars and threats and to look for diplomatic solutions to international crises.

"The party which covers-up the Israeli nuclear, biological and chemical arsenal,  which creates false pretexts to maintain its chemical arsenal, which destroyed Iraq over mass Destruction Weapons Lies, which withdrew from the international deal with Iran, which cut funding for UNRWA, which withdrew from UNESCO and which continues putting pressure on the United Nations and threatens of withdrawing from the world Trade Organization doesn't have the right to accuse Syria of using chemical weapons, particularly when this party's history is full of proofs about its use of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons against civilians in many parts of the world, al-Jaafari said.

He reiterated that Syria has implemented all its pledges towards the Chemical Weapons Convention through destroying the chemical weapon production sites, noting that there has been no chemical weapon in Syria since 2014 as the mission of the Organization for the prohibition of Chemical Weapons has made sure that chemical weapons sites were destroyed.

The Syrian diplomat talked about the official letter sent by Syria to the Council's members two days ago and that included highly accurate and credible information about preparations being made by the armed terrorist groups in Idleb, Lattakia countryside and Aleppo Countryside to use poisonous chemical  agents at a large scale against civilians with the purpose of hindering the military operation against terrorism in these areas.

He pointed out that Syria, which has been fighting terrorist organizations, mainly Daesh, Jabhat al-Nusra and their affiliated groups, won't surrender to shameful political blackmail or to threats of direct military action by the governments of the United States, Britain and France which have committed different crimes, including supporting terrorism and ordering Jabhat al-Nusra and affiliated groups, like the so-called "White Helmets", to use chemical weapons against Syrian civilians with the purpose of accusing the Syrian government and creating a pretext for new aggression against Syria.

Al-Jaafari asked "why would Syria use an internationally banned weapon, which it originally doesn't  have and which achieves no real military viability, but offers the pretext for the three aggression forces  to launch military action after another? "  He went on to ask "why does this weapon hurt women and children only and doesn't hurt terrorists? Why are the three aggressors able to predict where and when the alleged chemical attack will take place and which kind of chemical weapons is to be used in Syria? Why all this harmony exists between these governments and the terrorists of "Jabhat al-Nusra" and the "White Helmets" in the ability to predict the chemical attack? Why haven't the Security Council and the OPCW been able so far to deal with information put forward by Syria in 156 official letters regarding the delivery of toxic chemical materials to terrorist groups in Syria to be used against Syrian civilians with the purpose of blaming the Syrian Arab army for the attacks?."

Some parties don't want to solve the crisis in Syria, rather, they seek investing in terrorism, he clarified.

The Syrian envoy  affirmed that the US, British and French governments have failed over the past eight years to achieve their goals through supporting terrorism in Syria, so they are now threatening of direct military action against Syria and are illegally deploying troops on the Syrian territories. He stressed that the aggressors will try to hinder the political process in Geneva, Astana and Sochi on Syrian settlement, abort efforts to eliminate remnants of terrorism in Idleb and other Syrian provinces, continue the tight economic siege imposed on the Syrian people, block funding reconstruction in Syria and prevent refugees and displaced Syrians from returning to their homeland and living in peace and dignity.
