Syria Hails Poland's Assistance to Create Suitable Circumstances for Return of Syrian Refugees

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria highly appreciates Poland's stance on the Syrian refugees issue and hails the support to be provided by the Polish government as to help solve this issue, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad said during his meeting on Tuesday with Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Papierz.

The Polish diplomat, on his part said his visit to Syria aimed at providing assistance to the Syrian state in creating suitable circumstances for the return of the Syrian refugees.

Andrzej Papierz's visit is the first in terms of level since the beginning of the crisis in Syria.

Speaking to journalists , al-Mikdad said the visit aimed to discuss a specified Polish project relating to the return of the displaced Syrians to their homeland.

 He went on saying that the Polish initiative provides for building houses to more than 100 displaced Syrian families returning from Lebanon. The project, which is to be funded by Poland, will be carried out in any area chosen by the Syrian state, he clarified, pointing out the Syrian state will afford the expenses of jobs, education and the health facilities to be built.

Al-Mikdad described the Polish stance as realistic and reasonable, stressing that this is the right way to help Syria, because conditional humanitarian assistance is unacceptable.

The Polish official affirmed that his country's relations with Syria are good and historical as they date back to the 1940s of the 20th century, noting that these relations never severed during the crisis in Syria and that the Syrian Embassy in Warsaw is still opened and the Polish diplomatic mission in Syria is represented by a charge de Affairs.

 Papierz pointed out that from the very beginning his country has been against the plan of settling Syrian refugees in the European union countries, saying "we are in a position through which we believe we have to help those who lost their properties in Syria."

He expressed Poland's willingness to suggest a project that provide help to the refugees returning from Lebanon.
