Consultations on Constitutional Committee Aim at Reviewing the Current Syrian Constitution: al-Mikdad

 DAMASCUS, (ST)- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Mikdad has stressed that Syria has been targeted by a terrorist war because of its adherence to its sovereignty and independent decision as well as because of its commitment to defending the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people.

Addressing the Syrian youths at the “First Youth Dialogue Forum” in Damascus, al-Mikdad said that Syria is able by its youths’ capabilities to return to life stronger than before, pointing out that the youths’ vision of Syria’s future will be achieved despite Syria’s enemies’ attempts to hinder the country’s development.

 The deputy minister affirmed that since the beginning of the terrorist war on the country, Syria has believed in political solution to the crisis and it has cooperated with all initiatives and conferences held in Geneva, Astana or Sochi to reach political settlement that guarantees Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and prevents foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs.

Al-Mikdad made it clear that the consultations held regarding forming a constitutional committee aim at reviewing the current Syrian constitution adopted in 2012, noting that the Syrian constitution is an advanced one that sums up international ones, but, he said, any new constitution must be proposed to the Syrian people to accept.  

He hailed cooperation between Syria and its Russian and Iranian friends, noting that this cooperation is based principles and values most important of which is cooperation on the fight against terrorism as well as cooperation in the economic and scientific fileds, beside adherence to the Palestinian cause  and people’s rights to self determination.
