Syria to Continue Fighting Until All Its Territories Are Liberated from Terrorism and Aggressors: Al-Jaafari

ASTANA, (ST)- Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, Head of the Syrian Arab Republic delegation to the ninth round of Astana talks on Syria has expressed satisfaction over the results of Astana talks thanking the Russian and Iranian delegations and the hosting country Kazakhstan over their contribution to make the meeting a success.

He said Syria will continue fighting terrorism as to liberate every inch of the Syrian territories from terrorists and aggressors, pointing out that  the Syrian Arab army's victory over terrorism in eastern Ghouta has made Damascus and its surrounding safe.

He made it clear that evacuating the terrorists from northern Homs countryside and from southern Hama has been the result of the achievements of the Syrian Arab army in fighting terrorism in cooperation with Syria's friends and allies.

The joint statement of the guarantor states of Astana process affirms the adherence to the territorial sovereignty, integrity and safety of the Syrian Arab Republic against any foreign side that would violate that, al-Jaafari said, adding that Syria has put an end to dreams and illusions of the colonialist forces that sought dividing the country.

Elsewhere in his statement, al-Jaafari said that today marks the 70th anniversary of the Nakba Day, when the old-neo colonialist forces conspired against the Palestinian people.

The entire world witnessed yesterday the revolution of the Palestinian people against the decision of the US President Donald Trump of moving his country’s embassy to occupied al-Quds and saw the brutal atrocities of the Israeli occupation’s authorities against the Palestinians in which dozens were killed and thousands were injured, the Syrian senior diplomat went on to say.

He regretted the silence of the international public opinion and the "heroes", who claim that they protect human rights and democracy, over the massacre committed against the Palestinians yesterday.

Earlier, the Syrian government delegation held separate meetings with the Iranian delegation and with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

The ninth round of Astana talks on Syria started on Monday at the Kazakh capital with the participation of delegations representing the guarantor countries (Russia, Iran and Turkey), the Syrian Arab Republic delegation and the opposition delegations.

The Syrian Arab Republic delegation held a meeting with Hussein Jaberi Ansari, the Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs and the head of the Iranian delegation to the talks and another meeting with the Russian delegation led by Alexander Lavrentiev, the Russian President Special Envoy for Syria.
