Syria's Right of Sovereignty over Occupied Golan Nonnegotiable

NEW YORK, (ST)- Syria Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari has stressed  that Syria's right of sovereignty over the occupied Golan is nonnegotiable and that the Syrian occupied land and usurped rights must be completely restored and the Israeli settlers should immediately leave occupied Golan sooner or later.

During a Security Council session on the Situation in the Middle East on Thursday, al-Jaafari said Israel's occupation of Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese lands and the displacement of the people of these countries to settle strangers, based on Zionist takfiri doctrine, is unprecedented terrorism.

Some Security Council Member States Ignore Israel's Occupation of Palestine, Syrian Golan: al-Jaafari

He asserted that  the double standard policy is an inherent characteristic of some Security Council member countries who claim that they are defending human rights and international law and who ignore the Zionist occupation of Palestine and the Syrian Golan.

Al-Jaafari said western countries, particularly the United States keeps providing Israel with protection and immunity from accountability over its incessant violations of hundreds of UNSC resolutions which call for ending the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories.

He stressed Syria's unwavering stance on supporting the right of the Palestinian people to determine their future and establish their independent state on the entire Palestinian soil with al-Quds as a capital. He also affirmed Syria's support for the Palestinians' right to return to their homeland.

The Syrian diplomat denounced the stance of the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process who has deliberately overlooked the situation in the occupied Syrian Golan and the Israeli entity’s continued violations and hostile practices there.

He said that some states tried to include irrelevant topics in the current debate in an attempt to divert the attention of the UN Security Council away from the Israeli practices meantime they said no word about ending the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories, including the Syrian Golan as if the restoration of the Golan is not a legitimate right to the Syrian people.

Al-Jaafari also condemned the silence of some UNSC states over the Israeli occupation's violations of human rights and international law, particularly the continuous detention of Syrian citizens in the Israeli jails and over Israel's crime of stealing the natural resources of the occupied Syrian Golan.

He urged immediate deterrent measures against Israel and called for forcing the occupation entity to halt its acts of aggression and violations and to end its occupation of the Arab territories.
