Syria's Participation in 137th IPU Assembly to Help Convey Truth about Syria Events: PA Speaker

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Syrian Arab Republic, represented by the country's People's Assembly (PA) is to take part in the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly scheduled to be held on October 14 through 18 in the Russian city of St. Petersburg.

The People's Assembly's delegation will be led by its Speaker Hammoudeh al-Sabbagh.

In a statement to SANA reporter, al-Sabbagh said the delegation's participation in the IPU Assembly has a special importance in terms of conveying the truth about what is going on in Syria, mainly the terrorist attacks by the takfiri terrorist forces against Syria's sovereignty and independence.

"Such international meetings are an important opportunity for deepening parliamentary ties between the Syrian People's Assembly and other parliaments of other countries, particularly because many countries are participating in this event, said al-Sabbagh.

The agenda of the APU's 137th Assembly includes topics relating to enhancing cultural pluralism and peace through dialogue among religions.

Reports by the permanent committees concerned in international peace and security as well as sustainable development, finance, trade and UN affairs are also to be discussed.

In its 136th Assembly in Bangladesh last April, the IPU approved a draft decision submitted by Russia on the role of parliaments in preventing foreign intervention in the internal affairs of sovereign countries.
