Cuba renews support for political solution to crisis in Syria without any foreign interference

New York,(ST)-Cuba renewed its support for moving forward with a political solution to the crisis in Syria without any foreign interference.

In a statement addressed to the Security Council, Cuba's permanent representative to the United Nations, Pedro Luis Pedroso, affirmed that his country affirmed "its support for a political solution to the crisis in Syria without any external interference and with full respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity."

Pedroso called on the Security Council to demand from the Israeli occupation entity to immediately and completely stop all its settlement policies and practices, stressing the need for the Council to fulfill its responsibilities in maintaining peace.

He added, “What raises concern is that another year has ended without taking measures to end the military aggression and the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian lands in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy,” reiterating his country's support for resolving the Palestinian issue to allow the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and establish their independent, sovereign state within the borders of 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital.

Pedroso expressed Cuba's solidarity with the Palestinian people and his government's support for accepting the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations. He also affirmed his country's full support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with Iran and the commitment of all parties to implement their commitments contained in the plan.

On the other hand, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez condemned foreign interference in China's internal affairs.

In his tweet today, Rodriguez said, "Cuba renews its firm and categorical stance in support of the one-China principle and condemns interference in the internal affairs of this country."
