The Ministry of Health launches “Mammography” campaign

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer.

The past year has posed a challenge to just about everything due to the Corona pandemic, and breast cancer prevention is no exception.

Many women are truly unable to afford mammography services.Al-Suqaylabiyah National Hospital provides free mammography services during the month of October whether this leads to a cancer diagnosis that can now be successfully treated or provides peace of mind that there is no evidence of cancer.

Nurse Amira Jawhara said to SyriaTimes" We examine women over the age of forty after the woman is referred to a gynecologist or surgery then we take 4 pictures of the breast' front and side'

If the woman is under the age of forty, she will have an ultrasound scan if the doctor deems it necessary, the woman will be referred to the mammogram unit.

Screening mammograms help in the early detection of Breast Cancer. Women are advised to get screening mammograms done every year, after the age of 40. Especially if  the women have a family history of Breast Cancer or other risk factors, then the women should  get them even sooner.

It is reported that the number of women attending the National HospitalScreening mammograms  has decreased due to the Corona pandemic but we encourage women to get early breast cancer screening and adhere to sterilization and social distancing.
