4 cups flour

3 cups water

3 tsp. yeast dissolved in 2 tablespoons warm water

Pinch of salt

vegetable oil for frying



3 cups sugar

1 1/2 cups water

3 tbsp. orange blossom water

1 tsp. lemon juice



1. In a sauce pan, combine the sugar, water, orange blossom and lemon juice and stir until the sugar dissolves.

2. Bring to a boil and simmer until the syrup thickens.

3. Dissolve the yeast in 2 tbsp. warm water.

4. Sift the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl.

5. Mix the water and the yeast mixture with the dry ingredients.

6. Cover the bowl and leave in a warm dry place until it doubles in size.

7. Heat the oil in a deep fryer.

8. Spoon the dough into the hot oil and fry until golden brown.

9. Remove the Awameh from the oil and drop them into the syrup.

10. Remove from the syrup and serve.
