Syrian MP to ST: Occupied Syrian Golan won’t Remain under Occupation

Syria’s military option to liberate the occupied Golan from Israeli occupation has never been an exceptional one – since 1967- and all international charters and laws guarantee Syria’s right to retake the occupied territory by all means, according to the Syrian Member of Parliament Waleed Darwesh.

The parliamentarian, whose hometown is Quneitra province, told the Syria Times e-newspaper: “The Syrian state has respected and has abided by UN resolutions related to the occupied Syrian Golan and it has resorted to political diplomacy in dealing with the Zionist enemy’s violations. However, after the effrontery of US president Donald Trump who annexed Syrian Golan to ‘Israel’, the situation won’t remain the same.”

He played down and poked fun at what is being reported about Israel’s plan to house 250.000 settlers in the occupied Syrian Golan over the next 30 years.

“The media reports claim that the settlement plan will be done over the next 30 years! I do not think the Golan will remain under Israeli occupation for 30 years,” Darwesh said, referring to the fact that Syria liberated Quneitra from the Israeli occupation on June 26th, 1974.

He asserted that the Syrian state and leadership seek to liberate the occupied Golan from Israeli occupation by all possible means.

“The late President Hafez al-Assad rejected to give up one inch of Tiberias lake… All Syrian people, including Golan citizens inside the occupied Golan and outside it are loyal to the Syrian state and leadership,” Darwesh concluded.
