Israel Tries to Save Face after Strong Slap from Syrian Army

The Zionist enemy [Israel] is working now on avoiding humiliation after receiving a strong slap because of its wrong assessment of Syria’s military and political situation. It has to keep into consideration that the rules of engagement have changed and the response of Syrian army to the enemy’s today aggression on Syria is a military, political and strategic decision.

This viewpoint was made clear by both military and strategic expert, retired BGen. Haitham Hassoun and the Member of Parliament Dr. Ahmad Mer’ei in separate statements to the Syriatimes e-newspaper.

“The Syrian army’s response to the Zionist acts of aggression is the beginning of a new phase of conflict with the Zionist enemy and the countries that support terrorist groups in Syria because it widely opens the door to dangerous possibilities including an open war with Israel,” the retired Brigadier-General Hassoun said.

He made it clear that the Zionist enemy will try to show its military superiority and its ability to achieve what it calls ‘its security interests’ inside Syria and to confront what it calls “Iran’s expansion" towards the occupied Golan borders.

“The Zionist enemy wants to prove that it is a regional power that can preserve its interests by force,” the strategic expert added.

He went on to say: "Accordingly, the decision of confronting the Zionist enemy must have been made by all the countries of the axis of resistance at political level accompanied with the adoption of military measures to face the possible open confrontation.”

Goals of Israel’s repeated acts of aggression on sites in Syria

“The Zionist enemy’s intensive targeting of sites in Syria is an attempt to say that it is able to single-handedly act regardless possible retaliations. It has been convinced that Syria is unable to make the decision of response… This is one of the reasons of Israeli leaders’ confusing statements after the Israeli F-16 fighter jet shot down by the Syrian army,” he stated.

The retired officer also pointed out that the repeated Zionist enemy’s aggressive acts aimed at setting new rules of engagement to turn aggression into a normal thing that does not deserve comment and to weaken Syrian popular solidarity with the Syrian leadership and the allies through spreading frustration among the Syrian people.

He underlined that the Syrian army’s response, which has proved that Syria and its allies are on high alert to deal with any new Israeli aggression, pushed the Israeli leaders to appeal to Russia to intervene and prevent further escalation.

“I reckon that the Zionist enemy will now calm down to analyze what happened and to contain its negative effects on the Zionist entity as well as to communicate with Russia in order to get what it calls ‘ security guarantees’. It will re-assess the political and military stance in order to decide what it will do later,” the retired BGen Hassoun said.

He concluded by saying that the Zionist enemy received an unexpected strong slap because of its wrong assessment of Syria’s political and military situation.

State of fear of military escalation

On his part, The Syrian Member of Parliament Dr. Ahmad Mer’ei, said that the Zionist enemy is trying now to save its ‘defense forces’ face after shooting down a developed jet.

“I think there won’t be an open war as the Zionist enemy appealed to Washington and Moscow to prevent further escalation.. There is a state of fear of the future military escalation as the response is connected with a regional comprehensive system [Axis of resistance],” the MP added, affirming that there is a shift in rules of engagement.

“Syria’s response to the Zionist enemy’s aggression will redirect the compass towards occupied Palestine and will lead to confront the main enemy [Israel], not its agents [terrorist groups],” Dr. Mer’ei asserted.

He referred to the fact that there was a great elation among Syrian people after the announcement of shooting down the Zionist enemy’s fighter jet.

“I think that the equation will turn up-side-down and the Israeli, Turkish and American troops will be driven out of the Syrian territory,” he concluded.

In brief, the US-Zionist enemy can start a direct war against Syria after the defeat of its agents, but it can’t end it the way it wants.
