Syria’s Friends won’t Let It Fall

His eminence Sayyed Nasrallah underscored that goal behind the ongoing  War against the Syrians is but to destroy it and is no longer to "take it out of the axis of Resistance and the Arab-Israeli conflict. It is no longer to gain power at any price".

"It could be said that the goal of anyone standing behind the war in Syria is destroying Syria so that a strong, centralized state would not be established in it, and so that it would become too weak to take decisions related to its oil, sea, or borders," said Sayyed Nasrallah in a televised speech broadcast by al-Manar TV.

"Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, a military decision was taken to topple the regime. It reached slaughtering people, calling for foreign intervention, the use of chemical weapons. Some scholars even issued strict Fatwas that permit the killing of civilians," reiterating the call  for a political settlement of the crisis.

Sayyed Nasrallah  pointed out that because of what is happening in Syria, the Palestinian Cause is facing the danger of serious elimination, citing too the impact and dire consequences of the events in Syria on Lebanon, Iraq, and the entire  region.

"Syria has real friends, in the region and the world, that will not let it fall in the hands of America, Israel, and Takfiri groups," underlined Sheikh Nasrallah. Hopefully, anti-Syria ewes and their masters would get the message. Sayyed Nasrallah's words are indeed deeds; our armed forces pursuit of terrorists is unabated; and any aggression against Syria would never be a picnic for the aggressors who would definitely pay a price much heavier than any price ever.

Thus,  those "who claim they grieve over the bloodshed in Syria, those who do not want to lose the Palestinian cause,  and those who are worried about Syria, should work to reach a political settlement and a political solution for the Syrian situation." Accordingly, it is hopefully expected that those who support,  train, arm, and mushroom the hired killers takfiris and al-Qaeda terrorists would refrain from their destructive policies and resort to reason, logic and dialogue in the interest of ALL.

Better late than never !

Better late than never! Finally some western countries have started to recognize the reality of the ongoing in Syria as a defense war launched by the majority of the Syrians against al-Qaeda terror. Many European countries felt the heat and risk of terrorism against their own countries and citizens, including those governments of France, Britain, Belgium, Austria and Australia. Israel and the USA are still, however, in waiting for the worst coming from the same terrorists sponsored, trained and mushroomed by them.

The US, particularly its C.I.A., according to the International Herlad Tribune, has run a "covert program to train 'rebels'- terrorists- in Jordan." Israel, not to mention its sponsoring of al-Qaeda affiliated terrorism on the 1974 armistice line, according to Global Post, wounded Syrian "rebels"- terrorists- who have received medical care in Israel "are transported across the "border" only once they are positively identified and receive initial emergency medical treatment while still on the other side," meaning on Syrian soil.

Expectedly, Australian FM, Bob Carr stated yesterday that the increase in the number of Australians believed to be fighting in Syria marked a "significant potential threat to national security and confirmed the Gillard government is currently looking at banning new terrorist organizations". An Australian daily quoted Australian intelligence sources as declaring that at least half of the now 200 Australians believed to be in fighting in Syria are fighting for radical al-Qa'ida offshoot, the al-Nusra Front.

Minister Carr added that it was a "big" concern that Australians were fighting in Syria, which had "without a doubt" become a magnet for jihadists, voicing deep concern over the influence of al-Qa'ida affiliates within the Syrian "Opposition".

Earlier, Belgium asked Turkey to help in its efforts to prevent Belgian nationals from crossing into Syria to fight alongside opposition forces: “We are in close cooperation with Turkey on this issue and we have asked them for additional monitoring of border crossings,” Joelle Milquet, Belgium's deputy prime minister and interior minister, said during a radio interview on Saturday. She said she was planning to travel to Turkey for further talks on the matter.

The Belgian government has taken some measures to prevent such travels, introducing restrictions on traveling to Turkey for teenagers younger than 16. Particularly those youth living in neighborhoods populated by Moroccan immigrants are reported to be under increased police scrutiny.

On his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Didier Raiendres, urged the Belgium authorities to penalize Belgian citizens who come to Syria or other countries to fight as mercenaries.

Disrespect for UNSC Counterterrorism Resolutions

Syria repeatedly declared that the ongoing crisis in it is the result of a terrorist scheme by takfiri and extremist al-Qaeda affiliated organizations to obliterate the existing coexistence, tolerance and amity among all of its citizens. The takfiri terrorists aimed at the creation of mini-islamic emirates countrywide. They do threaten all of Syria's population and that of the neighboring countries too. Syria's assertions to this effect went unheeded for by many in the world, particularly those who have been arming, sponsoring and training terrorists before smuggling them into Syria, where they slaughter Syrians, destroy worshipping houses, and target every form of life and civilization.

Yesterday's Foreign and Expatriates Ministry statement came to this effect; the UN Security Council is called upon to enlist 'al-Nusra Front in the Levant among al-Qaeda-affiliated organizations according to the UN resolutions No. 1267  issued in  1999 and No 1989 issued in 2011. The call came after a series of revelations and recordings that al-Qaeda affiliated branches in Syria are waging a 'jihad' to create an 'islamic emirate' in the Levant!

Actually, UNSC  resolutions No. 1267  issued in  1999 and No 1989 issued in 2011 have all been adopted under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter and require all States to take the following measures in connection with any individual or entity associated with Al-Qaida, as designated by the Committee: freeze without delay the funds and other financial assets or economic resources of designated individuals and entities, prevent the entry into or transit through their territories by designated individuals, and prevent the direct or indirect supply, sale and transfer from their territories or by their nationals outside their territories, or using their flag vessels or aircraft, of arms and related materiel of all types, spare parts, and technical advice, assistance, or training related to military activities, to designated individuals and entities.

The statement carried the Syrian warning against the proliferation of  terrorism in the Middle East region and outside it as the International Community has been turning blind eyes and deaf ears to the crimes perpetrated by al-Qaeda-linked Takfiri terrorist  groups and the so-called "Free Syrian Army" in Syria. The USA, Britain and France, UN Permanent Security Council members have blocked for several times the Council condemnation of terrorist attacks against the Syrians.

Such a blockage and inaction have indeed  encouraged terrorists to pursue their crimes against Syrian citizens through suicide bombings and random mortar shells targeting homes, state services establishments, hospitals, mosques and churches.

The statement lashed out at  the transporting sophisticated weapons by Saudi Arabia and Qatar, according to international media outlets, to terrorists, not to mention the US training of terrorists in neighboring countries. The UN has to shoulder its responsibility under the UN resolutions related to combating terrorism and the states involved in supporting terrorism in Syria should  halt violations that threaten security and stability in the region and the world as well.

History Shouldn't Repeat Itself!

Hans Blix, ex-head of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission in charge of monitoring Iraq, has recently reflected his thoughts -10 years in the aftermath of the catastrophic invasion of Iraq- regarding his mission in Iraq: "I look again at the reasons why this terrible mistake -- and violation of the U.N. charter -- took place and explore if any lessons be drawn. Here are my thoughts. The war aimed to eliminate weapons of mass destruction, but there weren't any. The war aimed to eliminate al Qaeda in Iraq, but the terrorist group didn't exist in the country until after the invasion".

"The Bush administration certainly wanted to go to war, and it advanced eradication of weapons of mass destruction as the main reason. As Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz has since explained, it was the only rationale that was acceptable to all parts of the U.S. administration. However, suspicions are one thing and reality is quite another. U.N. inspectors were asked to search for, report and destroy real weapons. As we found no weapons and no evidence supporting the suspicions, we reported this. But U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfield dismissed our reports with one of his wittier retorts: "The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."

"On February 11 -- less than five weeks before the invasion -- I told U.S. national security adviser Condoleezza Rice I wasn't terribly impressed by the intelligence we had received from the U.S., and that there had been no weapons of mass destruction at any of the sites we had been recommended by American forces. Her response was that it was Iraq, and not the intelligence, that was on trial. And during a telephone chat with Tony Blair on February 20, I told the British prime minister that it would be paradoxical and absurd if a quarter of a million troops were to invade Iraq and find very little in the way of weapons. He responded by telling me intelligence was clear that Saddam had reconstituted his weapons of mass destruction program.." Blix added.

"At any rate, whatever view one took of the evidence of weapons, no one could believe in 2003 that prostrate Iraq was a threat to any other state. The most important lesson of the Iraq War, I think, has been that an overconfidence in military power has been replaced by an understanding that there are severe limitations on what can be achieved by military means." Concluded Blix.

Meanwhile, the Independent on Sunday  two days ago reported that unseen evidence given to the Chilcot Inquiry by British intelligence has revealed that former prime minister Tony Blair was told that Iraq had, at most, only a trivial amount of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

With this in mind, the statement issued yesterday by Foreign and Expatriates Ministry  is indeed laudable and highly appreciated. The UN Secretary General's demand to expand tasks of the specialized technical mission formed to investigate the use of the terrorist groups of chemical weapons against civilians in Khan al-Asal in Aleppo province should be strongly be turned down; Ki-Moon's demand does contradict the Syrian demand and indicate sinister plotted intentions of the states, which have sought to add them, as they mean to allow the mission to spread across Syria in violation  of the Syrian sovereignty, and possibly as a prelude to repeat the above mentioned scenario in Iraq.

The ministry  regretted that the UN Secretary General had yielded to pressures of the states which back bloodshed in Syria. "Syria can't accept such maneuvers from the UN General Secretariat, taking into consideration the negative role it played in Iraq to pave the way for the US invasion."

Syria was and is still ready to cooperate with the General secretariat as regards sending the mission immediately to Khan al-Asal according to the latter sent by Foreign and Expatriates Ministry to Ki-moon on April 5th.

A time-bombed Explosive Belt!

“Syria’s transformation into the centre of gravity for international terrorists is becoming a frightening reality,'' Alexander Lukashevich, the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman underscored according to RIA Novosti News Agency. Unfortunately, the anti-Syria ewes, petrodollars, and some occidental countries, particularly the US, France and Britain, not to mention the neighbouring Turkey, have been, and even before the start of current crisis in Syria, providing every military and logistic support to extremists and dispatching thousands of hired killers and terrorists to tens of affiliated takfiri terrorist organizations in Syria.

Syria has so far supplied the UN with scores of lists documenting hundreds of foreign terrorists' names, who where captured, wounded or killed in Syria. The UN remained silent and just on the contrary tried to blame the Syrians and their hero Army because they didn't give the terrorists an opportunity to kill and slaughter them!

According to a year-long survey by King's College London of more than two hundred killed posts on jihadist-linked websites and hundreds of Arab and western press reports found that up to 600 individuals from 14 countries including the UK, Austria, Spain, Sweden and Germany had taken part in the conflict since it began in 2011. The largest contingent, the study found, came from the UK, with estimates of fighters running between 28 and 134. The figures for Belgium, the Netherlands and Ireland, considering their population, with about 200 fighters between them, made these countries the most significant, said Prof Peter Neumann from the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR) at King's College,.

European fighters made up to between 7% and 11% of the foreign contingent in Syria, which ranged between 2,000 and 5,500 people. The researchers at the College also said there were likely to be at least 110 named Europeans engaged in fighting currently. They found that between 30 and 92 fighters were from France, between 14 and 85 from Belgium and between five and 107 from the Netherlands. Other nations in the study included Albania, Finland and Kosovo.

"No one has really mapped it out across all of Europe," Neumann said. "We've brought all these figures together … it's a compilation of the open source data. We can say with certainty now that hundreds of Europeans have joined the fight in Syria." Neumann said the figures, though relatively small, showed how fast international jihadists had been mustered in response to the conflict. And as the unfolding of events on the ground revealed, this number of 600 is indeed more in at least 10 times.

"The mobilisation of this conflict is more significant than any of the recent conflicts we have known about," he said. "The numbers are still quite small in terms of the overall percentage but in absolute numbers. I think it is higher now than any other conflict since Iraq. But Iraq went on for years and years. But here we have in the space of a year effectively – since early 2012 – you can already speak of thousands of foreign fighters. In Iraq that took two or three years to reach that point; so it is really significant."

Neumann concluded that in light of the findings it was wrong for the UK government to focus on Mali and the Sahel region, saying:" We have been so preoccupied with Mali … the real story is Syria because people aren't going to the Sahara. If you put yourself in the mind of a jihadist, you want to fight in the heart of the Arab world." Actually, a number of those extremist terrorists who might survive the Syrian hero Army bullets would definitely return back to their friends, neighbours and families; but this time with a time-bombed explosive belt!
