Lavrov: The West uses chemical weapons to achieve geo-political objectives

Russian Foreign Minister Sergy Lavrov affirmed that Western states are using the allegations of using chemical weapons to achieve geo-political objectives.

During the conference of the Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons currently being held in Moscow, Lavrov said that some states are employing the allegations of using chemical weapons in Syria to achieve geo-political objectives, adding that these states  are also pushing the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to take decisions that contradict the UN resolutions.

Meanwhile, Russia renewed its firm stand concerning making the Middle East region free from weapons of mass destruction.

Russia Today website quoted Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergy Rybakov as saying that it is very important to achieve tangible progress regarding making the Middle East region free from nuclear weapons and other kinds of mass destruction weapons, calling on all concerned parties to participate in a conference scheduled to be held in New York on November 18th.

Israel is the only state in the Middle East which has  not join the NPT agreement as successive Israeli governments have been adamantly rejecting the international efforts exerted to make the Middle East free from  mass destruction weapons.

Rybakov stressed that the extension of START Treaty for the reduction of strategic weapons is the only reasonable step that might prevent deterioration of  the spread of nuclear missiles, referring that the future of the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons became unclear.
