Tunisia’s Essebsi Dies Aged 92

TUNIS- (TAP) –Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi passed away on Thursday around 10.25 a.m. at the Tunis Military Hospital, announces the Presidency of the Republic in a brief press release, according to Agence Tunis Afrique Press (TAP).

Caid Essebsi, was born November 29, 1926 in Sidi Bousaïd, in the northern suburbs of Tunis.

"President of the republic Beji Caid Essebsi passed away on Tuesday morning, July 25, 2019, at 10 hours and 25 minutes in a hospital in Tunis," said the press release.

 According to TAP, he was hospitalized yesterday due to a health scare.

In late June, the president was already admitted to the hospital for a few days.

Essebsi headed the country since 2014.

Media reports said that Mohamed Ennaceur, the President of the Tunisian Parliament, will become the temporary acting president (for a term of 45-90 days).
