Al-Mikdad Slams Trump's Statements on Occupied Syrian Golan, Stresses US Is Biggest Rouge State

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The occupied Syrian Golan is part and parcel of the Syrian Arab Republic territories and liberating it from the Israeli occupation by all internationally-guaranteed means is a priority of the Syrian national policy, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad said in an interview with "al-Mayadeen TV" on Friday.

Commenting on the US President's Donald's Trump's statements in which he announced his intention to recognize "Israel's sovereignty" over the Syrian Golan, Al-Mikdad said "The United States is the biggest rogue state in the world as it sponsors terrorism, defies international resolutions on the occupied Syrian Golan and poses threat to world peace and security.

He pointed out that Trump's announcement violates the UN Charter and principles as well as the Security Council Resolution No. 497 for 1981 which all approve that the Golan is an "occupied land" and that any procedures adopted by the Israeli occupation in this occupied territory are null and void and of no legal effect.

"Syria's right to restore the occupied Golan is firm. It isn't subjected to negotiations or concession and it have no statute of limitations," said al-Mikdad, reiterating that the occupation forces' full withdrawal from the Golan to the June 4th 1967 line should be implemented in accordance with the principles of the international law and international legitimacy resolutions, including Security Council resolutions 242, 338 and 497.

Al-Mikdad made it clear that the people of occupied Syrian Golan, since the first day of the Israeli occupation, have been stressing that occupied Golan is an integral part of Syria and that the Syrian identity is their permanent identity to which they will continue to be adherent.

He reiterated that the people of the Golan will continue resisting the Israeli occupation's attempts to displace them and judaize their lands. They will foil the US administration and the Israeli occupation's attempts to change the status of Golan as they did before with Israel's annexation decision and its attempts to impose the occupation's identity and to hold local councils elections.

Al-Jaafari: Trump’s Remarks Won't Change the Fact that Golan Will always be Syrian

Syria’s Permanent Representative at the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari said that Trump's statements about Golan will not change the fact that it always was and always will be a Syrian land, stressing that the reckless US policies are the main factor in causing tension in the international arena and threatening peace and stability in the world, according to the Syrian news agency.

In a press conference in New York on Friday, al-Jaafari said “in blatant violation of international law, the UN Charter and the most simple bases, values, and morals of international relations, US President Donald Trump tweeted yesterday about the occupied Syrian Golan, expressing his administration’s disdain for the international community and the UN which represents it, and the Security Council resolutions which formed for many decades the basis of international legitimacy.”

Al-Jaafari reiterated Syria’s strong condemnation of this irresponsible statement about the legal status of the occupied Syria Golan, which UN resolutions and Security Council resolution no. 497 of 1981 identify as occupied territory and state that any steps taken by the Israeli occupation authorities on these occupied territories are null, void, and without legal effect.

He said that Trump’s statement reaffirms the United States’ blind bias in favor of the Israeli occupation and its unlimited support to its hostile behavior, in addition to showing the United States’ disdain for international legitimacy and its violation of its resolutions, particularly Security Council resolution no. 497, which all members of the Council voted in favor of, including the United States.

US administration has no right to decide fate of the occupied Syrian Golan

Syria’s Representative said the US administration has no right or jurisdiction to decide the fate of the occupied Syrian Golan, and any acknowledgement by it or any step that infringes upon Syria’s right to restore this occupied land is a hostile, provocative, and illegal act that has no effect, and this act undermines the commitments of the US as a permanent member of the Security Council and the host of the organization’s headquarters, in addition to violating the principles of international law, therefore the US is not qualified for its responsibilities as a permanent member of the Security Council.

Al-Jaafari said the statements by Trump and members of his administration about the occupied Syrian Golan, and the visits made by those who claim to represent the American people, will not change the fact that the Golan always was and always will be Syrian, asserting that the Syrians are more determined than ever to liberate this part of Syrian territory and return it to the homeland, regardless of whoever agrees or disagrees and no matter how much time it takes to achieve this.
