US-Led Coalition Destroying Everything in Syria except ISIS: Al-Moallem

SOCHI, (ST)- Washington-led coalition purportedly fighting ISIS is destroying everything in Syria except ISIS terrorist organization, Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem said during talks on Wednesday with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the Russian city of Sochi.

He said that Syria will call for dissolving this illegal international coalition which is being used by the United States to destroy Syria and prolong the war on the country.

On his part, Lavrov said victories of the Syrian Arab army, supported by the Russian air forces, have made solving the crisis in Syria more successful.

"Today we have a chance to discuss aspects of the foreign policy of our partnership, particularly as regards the urgent need for political settlement in Syria in the light of the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab army backed by the Russian aerospace forces," said Lavrov.

Lavrov was quoted by the Russian IItar Tass News Agency as saying that Russia will quash the attempts to blame the Syrian government for the incidents with the use of chemical weapons in the country.

We will counter any attempt to accuse Syrian government of using chemical weapon

"We will strongly counter any attempts to politicize the chemical dossier and the attempts to accuse the Syrian government without any proof or professional investigation of a whole number of incidents, which occurred with the use of chemical warfare agents on your country’s territory," Lavrov said.

The attempts continue as part of the UN General Assembly and the Human Rights Council to politicize the situation around the Syrian settlement, Russia’s top diplomat said.

In a statement to SANA, al-Moallem described the talks with Lavrov as useful and constructive, pointing out that the two sides discussed developments in Syria, the region and the world. He said that talks focused on the need to continue consultations between the two countries, the importance of holding Astana and Geneva talks on Syria and the Syrian army's efforts in the fight against Daesh, Jabhat al-Nusra and their affiliated groups.

Crisis in Syria is entering its final stage

The deputy premier also said that the crisis in Syria is entering its final stage thanks to the cooperation between Russia, Iran and the Lebanese resistance as well as to the steadfastness of the Syrian people and heroism of the Syrian army.

On the false accusations about the Syrian government using chemical weapons, al-Moallem said "this is an old lie that appears every time a positive development on ground occurs in terms of restoring security and stability to Syrian areas." He stressed that no one in the world believes such lies anymore, but they keep lying because they lost their other tools in the country.

Al-Moallem went on to say that during the last Astana meeting on Syria an agreement on establishing the fourth de-escalation zone in Syria's Idleb was reached under the supervision of the three guarantor countries, affirming that Syria hopes that this agreement will be implemented on ground starting from its keenness on stopping bloodshed.

Turkish actions in Syria illegal

On the ongoing events in Idleb, al-Maolem said Syria considers the Turkish presence in Syria as illegal and affirms that any  Turkish action in Syria without coordination with the Syrian government is illegal and is considered as an act of aggression.
